New Horse Joins Alvord Farm and Museum! Drawing Contest for "Knickers"

A new horse has joined the family at the museum, an old roan horse named "Knickers". No, not like the underwear, silly!!!! Like the neighing sound horses make. Apparently she "talks" a lot.

"Knickers" by Jade Rainsong, age 9 years.

Knickers is a rescue, just like all of the horses on Willa's farm. I haven't even seen her yet- I am going out to meet her soon, but I thought you all might like to draw a picture of what you think Knickers looks like. A "roan" colored horse means that it has a mix of white and dark hairs, making it look sort of grey. Willa has said that Knickers is friendly and very smart for a horse. We are glad that Jet and Trigger will have a new friend to play with.

Glorious Gastropods Playshop, AKA "Slug Day" was the Best!!

Thanks to our great volunteers The SLUG QUEEN "Slugtoinette" of Eugene and her "Slime Girl" for hosting a fabulous day of slimy fun at the museum! Their costumes were fabulous, their personalities were fun, and we learned some neat things about slugs and snails. And we also made lots of cool crafts! My favorite were the salt dough slugs we painted and took home. Yeah, I know, the irony! Get it? Salt, slugs.....HA HA. :)

Little House on the Prairie Summer Camp was fun for all!

Well, I am so pleased to say we had another wonderful camp this week- the Little House on the Prairie camp was great. Everyone loved it so much we had several campers say they wanted it to be two weeks long and they wanted to come back next year!

Bummer! I accidentally deleted all the photos from Friday, which was "Animals day" and the hoe down. Parents and grandparents and siblings came out to join us at noon, and it was such fun! We had a wonderful fiddler, Cari, who entertained us as we made homemade ice cream in an old fashioned hand crank ice cream maker, and danced and played "fox and goose." Wish I hadn't deleted those! Oh well, I'll be more careful next time.

I have hundreds of great photos to process so it may take me a few days to get them all up but here are a few highlights:

Bugs, Blooms, and Birds Summer Camp was a blast!

What do kids, nature, and fun have in common? Well, they were all at the museum this past week!

We had a fabulously successful camp with outdoor play, arts and crafts, and special presenters who shared their nature skill with us....and lots of play time!  We heard comments like "This is like school but funner!" and "Can you do two weeks of this camp next year?" And we had multiple requests for repeating the games (like forest food chain card game) and bingo (with prizes!) I liked all the art projects, but I think my favorite was the pressed flowers on the glass jars, held on with "modge podge." Although the "wacky bugs" we made were pretty cool too:)
