Knitting Day was tons of fun!

This past Saturday was a really fun knitting day at the Alvord Museum. Our instuctor, Elyse, also brought her spinning wheel and carding tools and all kinds of wool and fibers. We opened up the bins of fiber arts stuff Willa has, and several of us learned to knit! There were folks of all ages, and even some men! It was great fun. We had a nice fire going in the wood burning stove, and thanks to Willa for bringing in a tray of tea and cocoa. And she gave away several big bags of her raw llama wool.

I am working on my first ever knitting project, and proud of it!! We all had such fun that we didn't get to the felting part of the day, so we decided to have another knitting and felting day, which is going to be on Sunday March 8th from 1-4 pm, again adults only. See the pictures below to check out our fun time! We hope you will join us next time to learn to felt and knit, or continue with our knitting projects.

Adult Knitting class this Sunday!

Come join us this Sunday for a free knitting class at the Alvord Farm and Museum, put on by ReWild Eugene. It's from 1-4 pm, and teens are welcome too. Pre registration is required, and you'll need to bring your own needles and yarn. Call me at 968-1986 to register. See the pdf flyer on the home page for more info!

School Day Out - Animals in Winter!

Well a fun day was had once again at the Animals in Winter School Day Out Program. We were lucky to have Anna Bradley come and teach us about what animals do in winter. We learned about the Monarch Butterfly, the Blue Whale, and turtles.

We even got to do an experiment about insulation- we put our hands in cold water with a bag of fat around it; and it wasn't cold at all! Then we put our hand in the same water with a plain bag around it, and felt the cold more. Interesting to see how fat works as an insulator!

A nice day on the farm with Zoe!

Today Zoe and I went out to the farm to have fun and visit the animals. Zoe is my niece and she is 8 years old. We went out to the field and took pictures of Jet, Trigger, and the Llamas. Oh, and tried to get pictures of the ducks and chickens, but they were too fast for us!! Well, I got a few pictures but mostly they were too dark and the wrong angle! I did get a shot of Checkers the bunny though...

I have this idea that I will make laminated cards showing the animals and their info to put on their cages. Stay tuned to see how well I do with that!

After we played with the ice on the pond we went back to the museum and cleaned up some cool old bottles to put up in the pioneer room. It's looking pretty good in there!
