School Day Out Programs

Occasionally we offer School Day-Out programs at the museum, taught by a knowledgeable volunteer or enthusiast in the subject (and our coordinator, Karen Rainsong.) We usually offer carpools from a particular school for these events, which are typically in the morning. Usually kids will bring a sack lunch and be dropped off by parents (or carpool). Usually we spend some time outdoors, so children should be dressed appropriately. Past themes have included: Patterns in Nature, Animals in Winter, and more. These School Day-Out Programs usually cost $25 per child. Parent must turn in a signed Liability Release and Participant Info form for all participating children. (Scroll down to the bottom to find them.) Parents will pick up children on site or arrange for carpool home. Pre-registration is required; contact Karen for more information.

Pre-registration is required by calling the coordinator, Karen, at 541 968-1986. Space is not always available, as spots fill up fast.

What to bring:
You are welcome to bring a sack lunch, water bottle, and a camera. Children must be accompanied by an adult on Playshops, not necessarily so on School Day-Out programs. Please dress for the weather; these events may involve outdoor time. You will need to sign a liability waiver upon visiting for the first time; we will keep these on file.

Dogs:

There are two friendly dogs who live at the museum. (Sometimes the neighbor's dog is there playing too.) Children should be aware of this before they come, and please make special arrangements for any child who is uncomfortable around dogs. Please do not bring a dog to the museum without special permission.

Parking:
There is limited parking for cars at the museum, and before your visit you should let us know how many cars you will need to park on site. you may also park along the pasture fence on the road. The walk to the museum is not far from the parking area. Be aware that the neighbors have an electric fence around their yard and warn your children not to touch the fence. Thanks!

Inclement Weather:
For safety reasons (big trees), we cannot have visitors at the museum during high winds, and we may need to reschedule your visit if high winds are expected.

Amenities:
The bathrooms at the museum are port-a-potty type and there is no drinking water available. Visitors should plan to bring a water bottle. There is a hand washing station. There is no land line telephone at the museum itself, though the tour guide will have a cell phone. Please bring your own phone if neccesary.

All children and adults that are visiting the museum must have a signed liability waiver  and an Participant Info form which are available here as downloadable pdfs. Also please note our Safety Rules Sheet which is a downloadable pdf.
