Click here to see a video of Matt talking about dragonflies.

What a nice day we had yesterday- the weather cooperated and everyone had a blast! Matt told us a bit about dragonflies and their life cycle, and showed us pictures from a kids book. Then we talked about what we might see down at the pond. We took our dip nets and went down there (being careful not to disturb the mama duck and her baby ducklings) and we caught all sorts of creatures!

We got three damselflies, and a damselfly larvae in the water. Also we got tons of tadpoles and small fish. We caught a dragonfly that had just emerged out of it's exoskeleton, which we also scooped up. There was a cinnabar moth and a butterfly that were found, and a very cool red wasp. We had a ton of fun and no one fell in the pond this time! :) After lunch, we looked more closely at our captured creatures. Then we made a great dragonfly art project to take home...with glitter galore!
