Playshops at the Alvord Farm and Museum

The Alvord Farm and Museum offers "Playshops" with a particular focus, designed for kids and their parents. A knowledgeable volunteer or expert leads us in exploratory learning activities, and we do a craft project to take home. Some previous topics have included: Kalapuya Food Day, Monarch Butterfly Day, and Baby Farm Animals. These playshops are offered on a suggested donation basis and require pre-registration. Please bring your own sack lunch and drink, and dress for the weather. Check our calendar for listings and specific event details. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
Pre-registration is required by calling the coordinator, Karen, at 541 968-1986. Space is not always available, as spots fill up fast.
You are welcome to bring a sack lunch, water bottle, and a camera. Children must be accompanied by an adult on Playshops. Please dress for the weather; these events may involve outdoor time. You will need to sign a liability waiver upon visiting for the first time; we will keep these on file.
Dogs:
There are two friendly dogs who live at the museum. (Sometimes the neighbor's dog is there playing too.) Children should be aware of this before they come, and please make special arrangements for any child who is uncomfortable around dogs. Please do not bring a dog to the museum without special permission.
Parking:
There is limited parking for cars at the museum, and before your visit you should let us know how many cars you will need to park on site. you may also park along the pasture fence on the road. Please Note: the neighbor has an electric fence around her sheep pasture along the road- do not touch it at any time. The walk to the museum is not far from the parking area.
Inclement Weather:
For safety reasons (big trees), we cannot have visitors at the museum during high winds, and we may need to reschedule your visit if high winds are expected.
Amenities:
The bathrooms at the museum are port-a-potty type and there is no drinking water available. Visitors should plan to bring a water bottle. There is a hand washing station. There is no land line telephone at the museum itself, though the tour guide will have a cell phone. Please bring your own phone if neccesary.
All children and adults that are visiting the museum must have a signed liability waiver which is available here as a downloadable pdf. Also please note our Safety Rules Sheet which is a downloadable pdf.
Thanks and have a great time!
